Year of the Zebra (2025)
My current body of work utilizes imagery of fallen trees and rock striations to create abstracted striping accompanied by fragmented rivers and streams. I collect dozens of these images, construct digital collages, and then paint the collages with gouache onto clear plastic sheets. The plastic allows me to play with transparency, layering, and mixed media (often acrylic on canvas or watercolor paper behind the plastic to help ground the paintings). These waterways are symbolic reflections of my experiences with chronic illness. They are, like all of us, shaped by a lifetime of events and persist despite the brutality of their environment. I do, too.
